Think GIS:

How we use GIS to Solve Problems?

There are five basic ways to use GIS to solve a problem:

  1. Ask a geographical question
Why does is matter it trees are felled in that area? Why is this more area prone to crime? Why is that place flooded every year?
  2. Acquire geographic resources
What information do I need? Do I need live data or if old, how far back do I go?
  3. Explore geographic data
Turn the data into charts, maps and tables. Change the visualisation and the symbols.
  4. Analyse geographic information
Focus on the information and maps that answer the questions - Focus on relationships between the different types of data - Why If and Why not.
  5. Act upon geographic knowledge
Make better informed decisions - Understand better the impacts and choices that we must make.
