There are five basic ways to use GIS to solve a problem:
- Ask a geographical question
Why does is matter it trees are felled in that area? Why is this more area prone to crime? Why is that place flooded every year? - Acquire geographic resources
What information do I need? Do I need live data or if old, how far back do I go? - Explore geographic data
Turn the data into charts, maps and tables. Change the visualisation and the symbols. - Analyse geographic information
Focus on the information and maps that answer the questions - Focus on relationships between the different types of data - Why If and Why not. - Act upon geographic knowledge
Make better informed decisions - Understand better the impacts and choices that we must make.
